Today in our classroom, a couple of students used the words "Down Syndrome" in a not very nice way. When asked why, the students said they didn't know what the words meant. That led me to think about how little most Grade 4 - 6 students know about other's differences. Promoting respect for diversity, taking responsibility for personal actions and supporting others are important parts of our curriculum. This week our class will learn more about people with differences and share what we have learned. Parents and families can help by discussing their own family beliefs and practising tolerance at home.
