Open your BC Science Probe 5 Textbook or your iPad to Chapter 5 Skeletal and Muscular System - page 130 - 133
While You Read
As you read about the body's skin and how it interacts with other systems, complete each question on the worksheet  for Section 6.6 and 6.7 your Science Duotang.  Now read and highlight the information from Lightbulb Minds.  When you are finished play the "Forbidden Game" (directions are in your duotang.)

After You Read (Home/School Connections) - choose one activity to complete at home.

Fingerprint Activity
Matching Fingerprints:  Solving Crimes, Improving Security
Click on the fingerprints to investigate how fingerprints are used to solve crimes.  
When you are finished check your own fingerprints and those of other family members.
  1. What type do you have?  
  2. Do you all have the same type?  
  3. Post your discoveries on our class blog.

Click on the picture at left to compare fingerprint patterns again the evidence and apply problem-solving to identify the culprit.
Then check out the possible careers in crime forensics.  Write about solving the case and whether you would like to become a forensic scientist for our class blog.

2-Point Discrimination
Touch Experiments The skin is the largest sensory organ of the body.  Choose one of the "Touch Experiments" on the Neuroscience for Kids website.  Take pictures or a video of the activity as you complete it.  Post the results to our class blog along with a summary of your findings.

Protect Your Skin
Watch the video and then create your own poster or video telling about the potential dangers from the sun and how to protect yourself.  Bring the poster to school and be ready to explain it to the class or make a video to post on our class blog.

CHAPTER 6 QUIZ
Before we move on it's time to study for the quiz on Chapter 6.  Go through your textbook and your notes.  You can choose one of four ways to study.
  1. Complete the Chapter 6 Review found in your textbook on pages 134-135.  Answer the questions in complete sentences and hand in.
  2. Use the Chapter 6 Review found in your Science Duotang and hand in.
  3. Use Inspiration or your own drawing to make a mind map of Chapter 6.  Be sure to include drawings and definitions and hand in.
  4. Use file cards to record all important vocabulary words, their definitions and a drawing and hand in.
The following words are important:  skull, ribs, skin, ligaments, tendons, spinal column, cartilage, voluntary muscles, involuntary muscles, epidermis, dermis.

When your study notes are handed in you can complete the Quiz and move to the last chapter - the Nervous System!
