Monday - Trip to George Mackie Library
Everyone was introduced to the summer reading program and got a Fraser Valley library card. No excuse now for not reading over the summer! The Summer Reading Club Kick-Off is Thursday, Junee 28th from 2 - 4pm at the library. School's out! Strange...but true! Join them as they kick off Summer Reading Club with fun activities.
Burns Bog is one of Delta's hidden treasures. Located only 5 minutes by car from our school it is filled with sights, sounds and smells. The Burns Bog Conservation Society hosts great summer camps for kids. Check out their website. We took our sketchbooks and completed the Bog Explorer scavenger hunt. Instead of crossing off the things we saw on our Bog tour - we drew them! Unfortunately we did not get as far as the sunken tractor. We'll have to go again. Can you recognize some of the things in the pictures?
Mrs. Lidke kindly shared 2 butterfly caterpillars to our class. We have watched them grow from 1 cm to big fat caterpillars to pupae. A few days ago they hatched from the chrysalis. Today we said goodbye and good luck as we released them into a flower-filled courtyard.
We are almost finished our Arctic journey. Today students put finishing touches on their projects. Alexia created a beautiful Inuit woman with a baby in her komauti and Nicholas put together a very creative title page.
We joined Mr. Hirose's grade 4/5 class for what we hoped would be a sun and fun-filled day at Centennial Beach in the Boundary Bay Regional Park. It was fun-filled but not so sun-filled. See the blog on Centennial Beach in June 2011 to learn more about Boundary Bay. Thanks so much to Mr. Hirose and the parents who drove and joined us.
