We started simply with Mark Kister's Draw Squad last year. Student's have enjoyed learning about the principles of drawing through his humorous videos. This year we are going to spread our wings a bit and learn about some of the great artists through history (Great Art Masters). At Halloween I thought it was the perfect time to introduce Edvard Munch and his very famous (and expensive) painting "The Scream."
Using a great art lesson from online (thanks Clown & Poodle) we created our own versions. Even my student who normally does like to participate was able to use the online fillable paintings from Enchanted Learning. I am quite sure these are worth even more than the $20,000,000 the original fetched at auction. You decide for yourself! Watch for our Monet paintings coming next.
In our classroom we work hard to stay positive despite challenges with school work and behaviour. One way to help develop self-esteem is to use affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that we tell ourselves. We have been reading and watching the book Affirmation Weaver from Stress Free Kids. Students made beautiful pictures showing the sea creatures featured in the books along with the affirmations. Jonathan said that I could share the powerpoint that he created. Thanks Jonathan!

This is my fourth year as a District Behaviour Support and Intervention teacher with the New Westminster School District. My focus is on students who are having serious challenges with self-regulation across many domains - biological, emotional, cognitive, social and prosocial - at school, at home and in the community. My role is to provide support to teachers and teams to create an environment for success for the student.
