This week our students were involved in helping Jarvis become the latest school to install a rain garden. Involving students provides hands on experience in learning how their actions impact the environment. We thoroughly enjoyed putting on our raincoats and boots and having a turn to plant.

cross country track meet - october 16Congratulations to Keziah and Dylan who were part of the Jarvis Cross Country team and took part in the meet at Sunshine Hills school on October 16th. Joining cross country is an intensive commitment as there are always only a couple of weeks in which to train. Dylan and Keziah came out every day at lunch time to run about 1.5 km. The day of the meet was sunny and warm. Everyone had a wonderful time. The Great egg drop - october 23Each year Mr. Hirose's Grade 4/5 class is challenged to discover a way to protect an egg from the stresses of being dropped off the roof of the school. Conner took part in this year's scientific competition and great success. His egg made it! Congratulations Conner. Make sure you watch the video below! halloween 2013Halloween is a fun time at Jarvis. We got into the spirit by painting spooky houses. Then on October 31st almost everyone got dressed up in the afternoon. Can you believe it? We even had healthy Halloween snacks (thanks to Mrs. Leone!) We also learned how to write a cinquain poem. Look for them in our photo gallery below. Click on the photo below to start the slide show! diwali 2013 - A Festival of lightsWe have focussed on Science for the last few weeks. The grade 5's have been learning about the human body while Grade 6's have studied the Diversity of Life. You can take a look at what we are learning in each lesson here. We have used an array of learning tools including our textbook - both as a book and on the Smartboard, video, models, experiments, posters and iPad apps for an in depth learning experience. Student responses to different activities are posted on the Student News! page. Our culminating activity was a trip using public transit to Science World to watch The Human Body on the Omnimax screen and explore the Body Works exhibit. It was a great success and a day for everyone to remember. Enjoy some of our favourite experiences in pictures below!
