Wednesday to Friday - The first bell rings at 8:52. Classes begin at 8:55. Students will be dismissed at 3 pm. All Supportive Learning students will be attending Ms. Palmer's classroom full time for the first two weeks. Today you can bring your healthy lunch along with your healthy snack! Remember to dress for the weather. We spend lots of time outside! This week we will be spending time learning about the school routines, rules, ourselves and each other.
Tips to Be Ready for the First Week
1. Start now to establish a school bedtime and morning routine. Encourage your child to go to bed and get up 15 minutes earlier each day until you are back on schedule. Remember that elementary aged children need about 10 hours of sleep each night. A good guideline is going to bed at 8:30 pm, reading for 30 minutes and lights out at 9 pm. Getting up at 7 am will leave plenty of time to get ready for school.
2. Decide now where and when your child will do their homework. There should be no TV close by and computer use should be supervised. The kitchen table is often a great spot. Although it is a family decision many child experts feel that children should not have a computer in their bedroom.
3. Set up plan for making lunches and organizing school clothes and materials in the evening rather than waiting until the morning. Behaviour issues often arise around rushing, lost items and being late for the bus. Do not expect that your child will be able to organize themselves. Brainstorm a list of tasks to be done and post it in a prominent place. Then set aside time after dinner each night to work together to complete the activities. Reward yourselves when the jobs are done! Think how smoothly the morning will go!
See you on Tuesday!
